Opportunity Snapshot

If you have solid problem solving skills and a passion for learning and growing, this position offers you the opportunity to expand your experience and grow your skills as you contribute to intriguing projects. While Global Conference Partners (GCP) is a smaller company, we hold a large share of the multi-billion dollar teleconference market, competing with major corporations -- and we're a stable company with low turnover. This means you'll be a "big fish in a small pond," able to make a significant impact on our products. You'll contribute to a wide variety of projects, from maintenance to major initiatives, and work with commercial grade telephony hardware -- the kind you can't buy at Fry's!

To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have a bachelor's degree (a master's is preferred) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, and experience -- professionally or in the classroom -- with object oriented programming languages like Java, C#, and/or C++. You also will need outstanding communication abilities; lots of job descriptions mention this, but at GCP it is especially important. You also will need to be self-motivated and energetic, have a high bias for action, and be just as comfortable achieving goals autonomously as you are collaborating with the team.

You will be involved in a wide variety of programming projects, from maintaining existing applications to developing brand new ones. We'll start you in projects utilizing ASP.NET, HTML, and CSS, and then you'll move into C# and middle tier applications.

What Else You'll Bring to the Table

In addition to the qualifications detailed above, you'll need:
  • An understanding of software design/development methodology as well as the installation and implementation of software products.
  • The ability to positively and quickly adapt to new and changing technology.
  • Excellent problem solving skills, particularly with regard to anticipating and solving problems, issues, or concerns before they occur or become critical.
  • Strong written, verbal, and non-verbal communication skills with internal and external customers.
  • The ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
  • A strong team player attitude and the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical teams.
  • The ability to balance short-term objectives and meet established release cycle deadlines.
  • Knowledge of and experience with ASP.NET, HTML, or CSS is preferred but not required.

What's in It for You

Professional development -- you will work closely with the Director of Software Engineering and have input on the direction of our products. In addition, you'll make tangible contributions implemented almost immediately and be able to point to your work, such as a downloadable application on various websites.

Pride and stability -- you'll become part of one of Los Angeles' leading telephony and technology firms. We were one of the first companies to leverage the Internet and provide low-cost audio teleconferencing services and have been operating and profitable for longer than 20 years.

Autonomy and flexibility -- once you have proven your abilities, we won't just give you "elbow room," we'll expect you to you to take a concept and execute on it with minimal supervision. We are more concerned with results than with formalities, meaning you'll enjoy flexibility in your schedule, possibly including some work-at-home days.

Great work environment -- we are a small shop and there's barely enough room for all the innovation; bureaucracy just doesn't fit. You'll find a dynamic, energetic, and stimulating atmosphere. In addition, GCP recently moved to a brand new facility in Glendale.

Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary, bonus incentive program, and company stock options, we offer a generous benefits package that includes comprehensive health insurance, a 401(k) plan, ample personal time for vacations and holidays, and more.

More About Your Role

If you're a good fit for this position, you already know most of what this job entails. However, to be sure we're providing a complete picture, here are some details.

Reporting to the Director of Software Engineering, you will join a team that includes two others and is growing. You'll be involved in primarily front-end development in ASP.NET and C# (using CSS & HTML) in a wide variety of programming projects. As you continue to develop your skills you will be given opportunities to work on the back end with C# and MS SQL. We have a number of large products in diverse languages and platforms, and we're constantly upgrading these and launching new applications and functionalities. The development team focuses on two main areas:
  • We host several websites written on MS .NET that are stable and successful. At the same time, they are large and there always is plenty to enhance and add. We also add new sites and, when appropriate, completely re-architect an existing site.
  • Our core application -- the one that generates the revenue -- is a conference bridge developed in C++ and continually refined over the years. It is very large and, while it doesn't require a lot of work, you will need to get into it from time to time. If you're like us, you'll enjoy working with the specialized hardware involved, including high-density telephone interfaces and state of the art telephony technologies such as SIP and VoIP.
There are plenty of smaller applications and other projects as well. Your specific activities will include:
  • Developing in an efficient and high quality manner.
  • Participating in design and design review processes.
  • Ensuring that solutions will effectively meet business objectives while using innovative, performance oriented technology.
  • Interacting with other teams to ensure that business needs are fully addressed.
  • Completing programming assignments on time and on budget.
  • Creating effective, efficient designs that meet scheduled product release requirements and constraints employing appropriate levels of available technology.
  • Testing your work across multiple browsing environments.

Keys to Success

As a small, lean team, we achieve our goals without a lot of structure, although there are plenty of projects in the queue and we are proud of our track record of delivering to schedule. To excel in this role you will:
  • Be self-motivated and resourceful.
  • Truly enjoy learning new languages and technologies.
  • Chew through the queue while still producing solid, quality code.
  • Remain flexible as priorities change.
If this sounds like the right mix of challenge and opportunity for you, and you meet the minimum qualifications, we want to hear from you!
